How the Canada Digital Nomad pathway works

Unlike Portugal, Spain or the UAE, Canada's Digital Nomad Strategy is not a dedicated visa class — it is an official position statement that IRCC will permit digital nomads to enter Canada as visitors (either visa-exempt or with a Temporary Resident Visa) and work remotely for their foreign employer.

Digital nomads can stay for up to 6 months per visitor entry. During this time IRCC actively encourages transitioning to a Canadian job offer — at which point applicants can apply for a work permit under existing streams like the Global Talent Stream, ICT (Intra-Company Transferee) or a standard LMIA-based work permit.
