🇨🇭 Swiss Work Permit (L / B)

Employer-sponsored short-stay (L) or residence (B) permit

The Swiss L (short-stay, up to 12 months) and B (residence, typically 1 year renewable) work permits are the primary employment-based routes for Indian professionals. Both require a Swiss employer, cantonal labour-market approval and federal SEM sign-off before the consular D visa is issued.

Chapter 01

Cantonal + federal approval chain

The employer files the work-permit request with the cantonal migration and labour offices. Once the canton approves, the file goes to SEM (State Secretariat for Migration) for federal sign-off. Only after SEM approval can the applicant submit the D visa application at the Swiss consulate in Mumbai / New Delhi.

Chapter 02

Salary benchmark and priority test

Swiss employers must demonstrate that the offered salary aligns with SECO / cantonal benchmarks for the role and that no suitable EU/EFTA candidate was available. Documented recruitment efforts (LinkedIn campaign, agency mandates, internal transfer justification) form part of the file.
